Sonnox Oxford Limiter V4 Review
If you’re looking for a limiter to help with your mastering, the Sonnox Oxford Limiter may be just what you need. As an experienced mastering engineer, I recently got my hands on this plugin (and many other limiter plugins) and found it incredibly useful – join me as I review its capabilities and show why it might make the perfect addition to your toolkit!

The Oxford Limiter has a special “Enhance” control which can give an authoritative punch and impact without raising the peak levels.Â
Enhance vocal clarity, make lead guitars shine – it’s all made possible with this unique limiter.
The Oxford Limiter provides a great safeguard for your audio mix, with its ability to detect if any signal will cause distortion.
With the limiter’s various true peak options and adjustable dither section that lets you specify bit-depth, noise shaping curves and depth of curve – all potential unwanted sounds can be kept at bay.
User Interface
Whether you’re a novice or an expert in plug-in controls, Oxford’s GUI makes it easy to refine your audio.
With its three main sections – Input, Pre-Process and Output – users can take advantage of helpful features like the input gain control and threshold adjuster tools on the Input stage; attack, release & soft knee adjustments available on the Pre Process module; plus Enhance functionality found within output parameter settings.

- Simple, intuitive design with a clear and concise layout.
- Suitable for any source, group, or bus, but most at home on mix buses or on tracks for mastering.
- Highly flexible and can be subtly adjusted for the given material while retaining maximum loudness.
Cons
The Enhance control can add aggressive distortion if not used carefully.
Some users may prefer more aggressive limiters for certain genres or styles.
May not be as suitable for users who are looking for a visualizer or other advanced features.
Alternatives
The alternatives are both Bute Limiter and TDR Limiter 6.Â
Both sounding great and are a bit cheaper. On the other hand, if transparency is key to your project’s success then Oxford Limiter takes the crown!Â
With its true peak limiter capabilities it can’t be beaten for overall performance.

If you are looking for a comprehensive and flexible solution for audio production, the BUTE Limiter 2 is an excellent choice.
