Audio Technica AT-LPW40WN Review

Aesthetics

This AT-LPW40WN turntable is simply beautiful. The stunning wood grain appearance and carbon-fiber tone arm have caught the attention of visitors and online followers alike. The turntable’s design is sleek, and I appreciate that it’s not overly bulky like some other models.

Setup

Setting up this turntable was a breeze, thanks in part to Audio Technica’s helpful YouTube video. While the included quick start manual is mostly pictures, it was sufficient for me to put everything together without any issues. Balancing the tone arm and adjusting the anti-skate were the only aspects that could have used more guidance.

Sound Quality

Sound quality is subjective, but in my experience, the AT-LPW40WN sounds really good out of the box with its internal phono preamp. I’ve used it with Edifier R1280DBS speakers and a Vizio soundbar, and both setups produced satisfactory sound. Although audiophiles might want more, this turntable offers excellent value in terms of sound, looks, specs, and functionality.

Upgradeability

There is some room for upgrading components in the future, such as different VM95 series cartridges, mats, or stabilizers. I’ve personally upgraded to a Nude Shibata stylus, which I would recommend for an improved listening experience.

Cons

I encountered a couple of minor issues with this turntable. The glue holding the speed knob together came apart after a few days of use, but it was an easy fix with some gorilla glue. Also, there isn’t enough space to use a Q-Up, but as a fully manual turntable, that’s not a huge surprise.

Pros:

  1. Attractive design and aesthetics
  2. Good sound quality
  3. Easy setup process
  4. Solid build quality
  5. Great value for money
  6. Upgradeability options available

Cons:

  1. Instructions manual could be clearer
  2. Lacks automatic features
  3. Some users may prefer a more advanced tonearm

All in All

If you’re looking for a beginner record player then you’ll be extremely satisfied with the AT-LPW40WN. It strikes the perfect balance between sound quality, aesthetics, and affordability. If you’re looking for a turntable that offers excellent value and performance, I highly recommend the Audio Technica AT-LPW40WN.

Thanks for reading.

Hope that was helpful.
